The Department of Geography at the University of Bonn (GIUB) has once again secured funding for international mobility projects in the 2026 Erasmus+ call. The new 36-month project will continue the long-standing partnerships with universities in Tanzania while establishing a new partnership with Université d’Abomey-Calavi (UAC) in Benin.
The cooperation with Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) and Mzumbe University in Tanzania has existed for many years, with a particular focus on Development Geography. The Erasmus+ mobility project with both universities was first funded in 2020 and has now been successfully extended for the second time. This will allow the GIUB to further strengthen international exchange and academic collaboration with its Tanzanian partners.
The Université d’Abomey-Calavi in Benin is a new addition to the Erasmus+ project. The partnership builds on many years of academic collaboration between the GIUB and UAC, particularly in the field of hydrology. The inclusion of UAC in the Erasmus+ programme was initiated and strongly supported by Prof. Julian Klaus.
As part of the new Erasmus+ partnerships, students and staff of the GIUB can receive funding for stays at the partner universities in Tanzania and Benin. The first mobilities under the new project will be possible from the summer semester 2027.
