The University of Helsinki (Finnish: Helsingin yliopisto) is Finland’s largest and oldest academic institution. It was founded in 1640 by the 13-year-old Queen Christina of Sweden. Today, the academic community consists of approximately 44,000 people across 11 faculties located on four campuses: the City Centre Campus (Humanities, Social Sciences, Law, and more) Meilahti Campus (Medicine) Kumpula and Viikki Campuses (Natural Sciences). Each year, around 2,000 international students join the university.
