Universitetet i Bergen
Founded in 1946, the University of Bergen (Norwegian: Universitetet i Bergen) is, with around 18,500 students and 4,000 staff members (2020), the third-largest university in Norway after those in Oslo and Trondheim. It comprises seven faculties with about 90 institutes and departments. The university hosts four Norwegian Centres of Excellence funded by the Research Council of Norway, including the Birkeland Centre for Space Science and the Centre for Geobiology. Bergen is Norway’s leading marine university and a key member of the Hjort Centre, a marine research cluster dedicated to interdisciplinary studies on changes in marine ecosystems. The Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research, based at the university, is the largest climate research centre in Scandinavia and is recognized as one of the leading institutions in Europe in this field.
