From 8 to 12 June 2026, Felister Mombo, Professor of Natural Resources Management at Sokoine University, and Jennifer Sesabo, Professor of Development Studies at Mzumbe University, visited the Department of Geography at the University of Bonn as part of a Teaching Mobility under the ERASMUS+ Worldwide programme. This was Felister Mombo’s second visit to the University of Bonn in the context of the programme. She is also the institutional coordinator of the ERASMUS+ Worldwide partnership at Sokoine University.
During their stay, the guest lecturer contributed to several teaching activities in courses taught by Prof. Jessica Budds at both undergraduate and graduate level. Their involvement focused on interactive and discussion-based teaching formats with an emphasis on critical geographical perspectives.
Felister Mombo and Jennifer Sesabo, together with their colleague Denisse Roca-Servat, Professor at the University of Antioquia (Colombia), who visited GIUB in the framework of a Bonn International Fellowship programme, jointly contributed to the Master’s workshop “Academic Writing.” The session focused on “Decolonizing Academic Writing” and explored different traditions of academic knowledge production within the context of global science. The workshop was highly interactive and benefited from comparative perspectives from Tanzania, Colombia, and Europe, fostering rich discussions among students and lecturers alike.
Furthermore, Felister Mombo contributed to the Master’s course “Water Security,” where she engaged students in discussions on sustainable water and natural resource management from a critical and practice-oriented perspective. Jennifer Sesabo participated in the introductory Bachelor’s seminar in Geography, where she contributed perspectives on environment and development, with a regional focus on Africa and Tanzania.
Earlier in the semester, from 4 to 10 May 2026, Theobald Theodory, Professor of Development Geography and ERASMUS+ coordinator at Mzumbe University, and Dr. Enock Mwakalila from the Department of Social Science and Humanities at Mzumbe University, visited the Department of Geography (GIUB). During their stay, they contributed to the project seminar on social-ecological transformation in Rural Kenya taught by Prof. Detlef Müller-Mahn, bringing in their expertise on development geography and economic perspectives on rural transformation.
These visits were marked by intensive exchange between the guests, students, and staff of the department. They further deepened the existing institutional partnerships and opened up new avenues for future collaboration in teaching and research, particularly in the fields of critical geography, rural development, water and resource governance, and decolonial approaches to knowledge production.
