From 03.05. - 08.05.2026 Dr. Anna Schoch-Baumann and former member Dr. Rainer Bell from the RG Schrott visited the EGU General Assembly 2026, Europe’s largest annual geoscience conference in Vienna. More than 20.000 scientist from around the world came together to discuss current research in the fields of Earth, planetary and space science through talks, poster sessions and thematic discussions.
The RG Schrott was represented on site with two scientific contributions. Dr. Anna Schoch-Baumann and Dr. Rainer Bell presented a poster entitled “The multi-method monitoring system on the Müsch Landslide (Ahr Valley, Germany)”. Their work highlights an integrated monitoring approach that combines multiple methods to capture and better understand slope dynamics at the Müsch landslide site.
In addition, Dr. Rainer Bell gave an oral presentation titled “Large wood recruitment during the extreme 2021 Ahr flood (Germany)”. The talk focused on the recruitment and transport of large wood during the flood event in the Ahr catchment and its relevance for flood-related geomorphological processes and hazard assessment.
A virtual Poster was presented by Ikram Zangana on “Transferability of Semi-Automatic Landslide Mapping Approach Using High-Resolution DTMs: a Case Study from the Swabian Alb, Germany”.
Participation in EGU 2026 provided an excellent opportunity for scientific exchange, discussion of current methodological developments and networking within the international geoscience community
