Johannes Wild
PhD Student
Johannes Wild is a PhD researcher in the Development Geography Research Group at the Department of Geography, University of Bonn. He joined the group in July 2026 as part of project C03 "Green Futures - The transformation of rural waterscapes in East Africa" within the Collaborative Research Center TRR 228 Future Rural Africa, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). His research focuses on waterscapes transformation and water security infrastructures in East Africa and on international water politics through political ecology- and hydro-social approaches.

Personal Information
Before joining the University of Bonn, Johannes Wild worked for three years as an advisor in international development cooperation. This included working 1) in a bilateral GIZ urban water security project in Tanzania, 2) at the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Secretariat in Laos on transboundary water governance, 3) at the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) on water and food security development politics and 4) as a policy advisor for GIZ in Bonn, advising the BMZ on water and climate- and on water and urban resilience international governance processes.
MSc Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security from the United Nations University (UNU-EHS) and the University of Bonn with a focus on development geography and water (2020 - 2022)
BSc Geography with a focus on Political Geography from the University of Heidelberg (2015 - 2019)
