Biography and Research

I have a multidisciplinary background in Human Geography, Environmental and Resources Management. I have worked as a researcher and lecturer in Geography in Münster (Germany), in Environmental Engineering in Neiva (Colombia) and as a science manager at the Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS) in Guadalajara (Mexico). I have lived, studied and/or worked in Latin America for a total of more than seven years, mostly in Mexico and Colombia.

My research focuses on socio-ecological conflicts in Latin America. I have worked on peasant movements defending their territories in Colombia. Recently, I started researching water governance in the Andean region of Ecuador. More broadly, I am interested in understanding how social and ecological change works, and how power relations shape these processes. I am also interested in the different ways in which human-nature relationships are defined, depending on the context. These relationships influence the way sustainable solutions to environmental problems are defined, as well as how development and alternatives are conceived.
