Summer Party at GIUB & Graduation Ceremony
On the afternoon of July 22, 2026, the Department of Geography, in collaboration with the Geography Student Council, will host a summer party to mark the end of the semester. In addition to a varied program in front of the department building, all registered graduates of the 2025/26 academic year will be personally bid farewell by their advisors in the Alfred Philippson Lecture Hall. The thesis does not necessarily have to be completed yet, but it must already be registered with the Examination Office.
The department leadership and the student council will look back on the past academic year and outline the prospects for careers in geography in a rapidly changing world facing major environmental and social challenges. After the farewell ceremony, there will be an opportunity to toast your success and join the summer party.

At 2:00 p.m., the graduation ceremony will begin with the presentation of diplomas by the advisors and a presentation of the topics of the bachelor’s and master’s theses. Following the ceremony, the GIUB will host a champagne reception.

The joint summer party hosted by the Student Council and the Department of Geography will take place starting at 4:00 p.m., immediately following the graduation ceremony. All students, alumni, and staff members of the GIUB are invited to attend. Starting at 4:00 p.m., the Student Council will be serving food and drinks at the kiosk in front of the Department of Geography.
Graduation Ceremony
To register for the graduation ceremony at GIUB, please use the registration form and submit it by July 8, 2026, at the latest via the registration button below. We can only contact you regarding questions about the preparation of the ceremony if you register here, as we require your explicit consent.
Requirements for student participation are:
By the registration deadline on July 8, 2026, you must have earned a minimum of 132 credits (Bachelor’s) or 60 credits (Master’s); you must have already registered for your Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis, or the thesis must have been submitted.
Final eligibility to participate in the graduation ceremony will be determined following confirmation by the GIUB. For organizational reasons, registrations received after the deadline cannot be accepted.
Classmates, friends, and parents are also warmly welcome to attend the graduation ceremony.
