On December 4, 2025, the Dr. Hohmann Grant was awarded to Dr. Arne Rieber in Cologne. This award is presented by the Cologne Geographical Society to support outstanding research projects by young geographers in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Dr. Arne Rieber is receiving the grant for his research project “German Industrial Transformation: Geoeconomy and the Role of the State in the Chemical Industry.” In this planned project, Dr. Arne Rieber will examine industrial policy and private-sector responses to a rapidly changing global economy. The focus is on the interplay between geostrategic and economic processes, as well as the increasing competitive pressure on the European chemical industry. The goal is to develop both empirical and conceptual contributions to the economic geography debate.
The Dr. Hohmann grant enables him to secure important resources for his work and to independently advance his habilitation project.
We warmly congratulate Dr. Arne Rieber on this achievement and look forward to further exciting results from his research!
