Utrecht University (Dutch: Universiteit Utrecht – UU; formerly Rijksuniversiteit Utrecht – RUU) is the second-largest university in the Netherlands. As of 2009, it had over 29,927 students and 8,614 staff members. Founded on 26 March 1636, it is the fourth-oldest university in the Netherlands. In addition to its traditional faculties in the natural sciences and humanities, Utrecht University also includes the Faculty of Geosciences.
