Université d’Abomey-Calavi

Founded in 1970 as the University of Dahomey, the University of Abomey-Calavi (UAC) became the National University of Benin before adopting its current name in 2001.Located in Abomey-Calavi, it is now one of Benin’s leading centers for higher education, research, and innovation.The UAC comprises several faculties, schools, institutes, and research centers and offers programs in a wide range of disciplines. Today, UAC offers 420 programs across 9 doctoral schools, 28 Teaching and Research Units (UFRs), 3 chairs, and 64 laboratories, with a faculty of 820 instructors and more than 67,000 students. It contributes to the production and dissemination of knowledge as well as to Benin’s socioeconomic development. The University also places great emphasis on international cooperation through inter-university partnerships, research projects, mobility programs, and joint degree programs. Through its national, regional, and international outreach, UAC works to strengthen academic and scientific excellence and innovation.

  • Accommodation: UAC provides university student residences. According to the university, approximately 1,482 places are available in student residences on the Abomey-Calavi campus. Private apartments and rooms are also available in the immediate vicinity of the campus, particularly in the so-called Village Universitaire. The university points out that the number of places in student residences is limited. Many students therefore live in or share private accommodation outside the campus.
