PhD Project

PhD-Thesis: “Estudio Geofísico del permafrost Andino en taludes y laderas de bloques en la Cuenca de Agua Negra, Provincia de San Juan, República Argentina- Deteccion, Distribucion y Significado hidrologico-"

My PhD project aims to contribute to the knowledge of hydrogeology from the detection, distribution and characterization of mountain permafrost in the Agua Negra Basin in San Juan Province (Argentina). For its study I propose the application of 3 geophysical techniques: Seismic Refraction Tomography, Resistive Electrical Tomography and GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) as well as a deep geomorphological analysis in two dominant periglacial landforms, taluses and block slopes. This study will make it possible to determine with great precision the distribution of permafrost in the Arid Andes of Argentina, as well as the influence on the permafrost of said landforms, climatic, lithological and topographic conditions. This characterization will allow a more precise estimate of the solid-state water reserve contained in the aforementioned periglacial geoforms. The doctoral thesis is part of the DFG-funded project "Spatial occurrence and hydrological significance of Andean permafrost, Agua Negra, Argentina (HyPerm)".
