Agostina Ortiz receives poster award at the Annual Conference of the German Society for Geomorphology (DGGM) Agostina Ortiz receives poster award at the Annual Conference of the German Society for Geomorphology (DGGM)

Several members of the research group for Geomorphology and Environmental Systems of Prof. Lothar Schrott attended the annual conference of the German Society for Geomorphology (DGGM) which was held from Oct. 4-6, 2023 in Aachen. The DGGM is a forum for mainly German geomorphologists aiming to connect the dicsipline on a national and international level and to support young scientists on all levels.

Agostina Ortiz, PhD student in the research group for Geomorphology and Environmental Systems of Prof. Lothar Schrott and research assistant at the Department of Geography, received a conference poster prices at the DGGM annual conference. Agostina Ortiz is from Argentina and works on her research at the Department of Geography in Bonn since 2021. Her research interests are high mountain systems and permafrost, especially water storage capacities and hydrologic relevance of taluses and blockslopes in the Dry Andes of Argentina. She deploys geophysical methods to study these phenomena in the Aqua Negra catchment. In her dissertation, Agostina focuses on the topic "Internal structure and distribution of Andean permafrost in blockslopes and taluses - a geophysical approach (Agua Negra, Argentina)". More information on her work and publications can be found on her website.

This year, many members of the research group for Geomorphology and Environmental Systems attended the DGGM annual conference and presented their work in different formats. Dr. Rainer Bell held a presentation on the Müsch landslide in the Ahr valley as a response to the 2021 floods, the PhD students Melanie Stammler and Tamara Köhler presented their work on permafrost studies in Argentina on scientific posters.
