Addressing the global water crisis in a challenging political environment: recommendations and debate Insights from the German Advisory Council on Global Change, IDOS and other experts.

We need international cooperation to sustainably manage water – but the current political environment marked by the rise of geopolitics, nationalism and competition for water is challenging.

Too little, too much, too dirty –  water challenges in virtually all countries are increasing with climate change and due to overuse and lacking treatment of the precious resource. The mid-term review on the Sustainable Development Goal 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation shows that the world is not on track to achieve this goal by 2030.
