Integrity Talk 6 Integrity Talk: Enabling multi-sector partnerships for water resilience - WIN and BWN, April 12, 2023, online

Enabling multi-sector partnerships for water resilience: Bringing integrity in the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus - April 12, 2023

In this Integrity Talk, we will discuss what the WEFE Nexus approach means and how to make it work, with integrity. We will look at the inherent risks of complex cross-sector initiatives where competing interests, unequal power dynamics, and untested governance structures come together. We will then focus on how integrity builds strong foundations for collaboration for water resilience.

Water security, energy security, food security and the health and sustainability of the planet’s ecosystems are deeply connected in the face of increased climate risks. That’s why an approach, like the WEFE Nexus approach, that emphasises interlinkages for planning and adaptation processes is so relevant.
But it has its challenges. How will it work in practice? How can we develop governance and implementation structures to deliver the nexus approach without adding further complexity and opening up accountability gaps? How can we avoid maladaptation or capture by special interests, and instead strengthen effectiveness and sustainability?
In this Integrity Talk, we will discuss the concept and practicalities of the Water Energy Food Ecosystems (WEFE) Nexus approach and the ways integrity can build strong foundations for cross-sector partnerships that contribute to water resilience.
