Bachelor of Science Geography (in German)

The bachelor´s program covers theoretical, methotological and application- oriented content at different scales:

  • Students gather extensive knowledge of the basic principles of human and physical geography.
  • Students learne about the basic principles of laboratory and field-work methods. Another focus is on methods in cartography, statistics, quantitative and qualitative social research, remote sensing and GIS.
  • The bachelor´s degree program also focuses on the practical application of knowledge gained during field trips, field classes and practical field investigations.
  • Student can specialize in a certain area by choosing a consecutive master´s degree program ina field of either a Physical or Human Geography field.

Language information

The BSc Geography at the University of Bonn is a degree program offered mostly in German. Some courses are offered in English. Please refer to the course information for international students. Proof of you level of German language profiiency with the DHS certificate is required for admission to the bachelor´s degree program.

Learning objectives

The bachelor´s degree program focuses on teaching analytical and methodological approaches, providing students with the skills required in work areas where more specific knowledge is not covered in academic training but acquired during the first phases of occupation (e.g. trainee programs).

Degree program duration and scope

The usual duration of the degree program is six semesters. The degree program is comprised of courses of the major subject geography (156 credit points) and subject specific elective modules (24 credit points). In the course of the degree program, students must complete several modules, which often build upon one another.

Counseling

Bachelor of Arts Geography, Minor (in German)

The Bachelor of Arts program in Geography can be studied as a minor to complete a major as part of a degree program offered by the Faculty of Arts. The students can choose between two specializations:  physical geography and human geography. This study program is taught in German.

Bachelor Teaching Degree in Geography (in German)

Students can choose Geography as one of two subjects of their teaching degree. Graduates of the bachelor´s degree program can follow their studies with the Master of Education program. This degree program is taught in German.
