Historical Geography
Main Research Areas
Historical geography is a historical and spatial science within the subject of geography. In addition, the history of geography is also part of the research.
- Historical geography aims to explain spatial structures from a historical perspective (the genetic landscape approach)
- Historical geography reconstructs past landscapes and their processes (the historical landscape approach)
- Historical geography contributes to the conservation and further development of the historical heritage of our landscapes (the conservational approach)
Current Projects
- “Cistercian Landscape Heisterbach” and “Cistercian Database” in cooperation with the Foundation „Eurocist-Cistercian-Archive Hoitz-Kalckert“ (Abbey Heisterbach) and the regional authority of the Rhineland
- DFG-Project “Allotment of the official, private and academic estate of Wilhelm Lauer” (1923-2007)
- A cooperative agreement with the regional authority of the Rhineland in the addition to and conceptualization of the Cultural Landscapes Information System “KuLaDig” (Edited by Dr. K.-D. Kleefeld and F.-J. Knöchel, LVR)
