Hydrology Research Group
The main research interests of the Hydrology Research Group (HRG) are in analysing and modelling water and solute transport at different spatial (from point to regional) and temporal (from single events to decades) scales. Beside water, the dynamic of pesticides, nitrogen, phosphorous as well as soil erosion is studied on a number of spatial and temporal scales. Concerning environmental modelling, aspects like regionalisation, scaling, as well as uncertainty analysis are of high importance.
Another field of interest of this group is the analysis of Global Change impacts on hydrology, soil erosion, and ecosystems considering interactions and feedbacks between different spheres like hydrosphere, biosphere, pedosphere and agrosphere.
A regional focus is on the analysis of the effects of Global Change on water and soil resources in Africa especially in West Africa (Benin, Ghana, Burkina Faso), Northwest Africa (Morocco), and East Africa (Ethiopia).
The strength of the HRG can be characterized in linking computer science (development of environmental models as well as Decision Support Systems) with process analysis and the ability for interdisciplinary cooperation.
