Current Research
Against the background of the discourse on globalization and fragmentation, my PhD concentrates on the topic of aviation and development. For the African continent Addis Ababa International Airport is an emerging gateway. The airport may be presented as a hub channeling various lines of movements, practices and subjects, and permanently translating them into new processes of development on multiple spatial and temporal scales. Based on empirical research, the study provides insights into the function of the airport stimulating growth and providing connectivity, but also discusses the airport as a site producing inequalities and creating boundaries. These ambivalent impacts in Ethiopia are analyzed in global terms, in the African context, and from a local perspective.
