Geographic Associations

DGfG - Deutsche Gesellschaft für Geographie e.V.

The DGfG is the umbrella organization of geographic unions and organizations in Germany with 25,000 members. The DGfG represents the interests of geographers working at schools, in academia or in other fields. They campaign the content and importance of geography as a school subject and a scientific and applied discipline in public. More than 30 working groups within the DGfG contribute to science and the development of theories and methods within geography. Please find further information concerning the working groups at

VGDH - Verband der Geographen an deutschen Hochschulen

Since 1990, the VGDH represents the interests of all geographers in academia. Infomation about the different working groups can be found here.

DVAG - Deutscher Verband für Angewandte Geographie

The DVAG (German Association of Applied Geography) addresses topics such as urban development, the real estate industry and economic development. The DVAG offers a platform to exchange knowledge in the field, build networks and discuss relevant issues.

GeoDACH  -  Dachverband der deutschsprachigen Geographiestudierenden

GeoDACH sees itself as a representation of geography students in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Among its tasks are to connect and advise students, as well as to represent them in the public and in the board meetings of the DGfG. Its main activities relates to the federal conference of student councils (BuFaTa) taking place twice a year.
