Student Numbers

In the years following the 1970s, the number of students in the Diplom programme in Geography saw a rapid increase. A trend that could also be observed at other German universities. At the same time, the number of students in the teaching degree program in Geography declined. The teaching degree program was discontinued as of 2008.

A BSc program in Geography was introduced in the winter semester 2007/08 in Bonn, and a MSc program in Geography followed in the winter semester 2010/11. The Diplom program was discontinued as of September 2014.

The Master of Disaster Management and Risk Governance (KaVoMa; further education for professionals; in cooperation with the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance) started in the winter semester 2006/07, followed by the international MSc program in Geography of Environmental Risks and Human Security (jointly organized with UNU-EHS) in 2013/14. One year later, the MSc Nature Coservation and Landscape Ecology (jointly organzied with the Faculty of Agriculture) was introduced.

The Bachelor Teaching Degree was reintroduced at the University of Bonn in the winter semester 2010/11, with the Master of Education degree in Geography following in the winter semester 2014/15.
