DESCRIPTION:Lecture on Cultural Geography: Erasures & Re-connections - Tea
ching Disciplinary Histories Under Censorship \n\nLike all histories\, the
history of Geography and other disciplines is marked by strategic and acc
idental erasures. Over the last decades\, geographers have made efforts to
improve their teaching by moving from a history of/through sanctioned ico
ns to a more distributed version that includes the influence of movements\
, events\, erased contributors and geographical interconnections. These ef
forts have been hindered by three constraining factors: difficulties in re
constructing histories (e.g.\, destroyed archives\, theses or publications
)\, limited time for pedagogical research\, and censorship by conservative
or far right national and regional governments (e.g.\, in USA\, UK\, Germ
any). For these reasons\, geographers have started to network for the exch
ange of strategies. In this talk\, I am presenting examples for further di
scussion. \n\nThis talk will take place hybrid (via Zoom).
