Space, Time And Political Responsibility In The Midst Of Global Inequality
This lecture argues that notions of political responsibility intersect with conceptualisations of, and debates about, time and space. The two dimensions, although always needing to be interwoven, highlight different issues and present distinct challenges. In the context of today's globalising world the dimension of spatiality is particularly challenging and important to address.
Doreen Massey is Professor of Geography at the Open University, and has written widely on issues of space and place, from the philosophical and conceptual to the directly political. Her latest book is For Space (Sage, 2005). She is also cofounder of Soundings: A journal of politics and culture.
